T510 will not shut down completely.

I have a new T510 running Windows 7 that will not completely shut down.  Windows does shut down, but the computer is still running.  The only way to get it to completely power off is hold the power button down for 5 seconds.

I have seen this issue in other posts, but no solution that has worked for me.

-BIOS is up to date

-I have reloaded the factory image twice.

Any ideas?

What's DOS?

Having same problem. System in Windows 7 x64 all updates applied.
It will take forever (>5 minutes) to shutdown and sometimes also bluescreen. I'd love to know what is causing the delay.

Re: T510 will not shut down completely.

Hi All,

Appreciate everyone could feedback the following.

When the machine does not shut down completely, do you hear the fan running? screen back light still on? The more details I could obtain from all would be easier for me to cascade this to engineering if needed.

Pete1976,

I understand you have update the BIOS to the latest version, could you try running ThinkVantage System Update and update all of the drivers available for your T510.Also do try to reseat the ram and HDD

jafin,

Are there any 3rd party RAM installed? Could you try reseating the RAM and HDD?

sdtagw,

Are you using the T510? Updates done? Reseat RAM and HDD please.

SteveEll,

More info needed as well.

Re: T510 will not shut down completely.

JameZ,

- Reseated the RAM and SSD, I will let you know if the problem occurs again.

- Tried a lenovo system update and had major problems yesterday, system restore this morning, back up and running.

- Ran system updates again this morning, successful, all packages are up to date.

When Problem occurs

- Fan is definitely running

- speakers work (I hear a beep when I unplug the power cord)

- Battery light stays on, even when not plugged in

- Network lights blink on back.

- Screen is not backlit

Re: T510 will not shut down completely.

To JameZ,

Yes, I have a new T510 (only 3 days old). I have done updates through the ThinkVantage tool box. Everytime I did a shutdown, it will hang on the windows shutdown screen the the "blue screen" will come up, and saying that there is a "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE".  Then it will go on to restart the notebook, and windows will tell me that there was an unexpected shutdown occurred. Here is the detail of that message:

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48

Locale ID: 4105

Additional information about the problem:

BCP4: FFFFF80000B9C510

OS Version: 6_1_7600

Re: T510 will not shut down completely.

Hi sdtagw,

This issue could be caused by driver conflicts, do open devmgmt.msc and see if there are any drivers which are not installed yet (yellow exclamation icon). If all drivers have been installed, do try to do an system update via ThinkVantage System Update.

Re: T510 will not shut down completely.

To JameZ,

I have checked and there is no conflict or missing driver in device manager.

I tried to do an system update via ThinkVantage System Update serveral times. And everytime the program tells me all the update is complete and to reboot my notebook for the new settings to take effect, there are always 4 items remaining and didn't get installed. They are:

 Critical Update:

Rescue and Recovery Cumulative WER fix package for Window  7

Optional Update:

ThinkPad Video Features (NVIDIA Quadro FX880M and NVIDIA NVS 3100M) for Windows 7 64-bit

Intel Chipset Support for Windows XP/Vista/7

Think Pad UltraNav Driver for Windows 64-bit

Any idea what should I try next?

Re: T510 will not shut down completely.

sdtagw,

Could you try manually removing the R&R, Nvidia GPU driver, Intel Chipset, UltraNav via the control panel then download and install the driver via link.
