TRIM firmware for the 128 GB Samsung SSD??

I have the 128 GB Samsung MMCRE28G8MXP that came with my T410S.  CystalDiskInfo (and googling) tells me that TRIM has not been implemented on the drive's firmware.  I can see that CrystalDiskinfo correctly identifies TRIM on my Crucial and my intel SSD's.

Is there any information out from Lenovo or Samsung that TRIM will be implemented on this drive?  Or maybe a tool to clean up the pages on disk?

I'm in precisely the same boat with my X301, with the exact same drive. My machine was manufactured 2010/03/25.

Googling around myself, I found the following facts:

• Samsung has released a firmware update giving TRIM support for their retail drives, but OEMs like Lenovo must issue their own. I don't know if anyone's tried applying the Samsung firmware to their Lenovo drive; there is a risk of turning the drive into a paperweight, if it's recognized at all.
• There is a rumor that Lenovo will release firmware giving TRIM support sometime soon.

If a drive doesn't have TRIM support, to wipe it one must use the secure erase facility, which wipes the whole drive. On Linux, this can be done from a rescue CD with

hdparm --security-erase [password] [device]

Obviously this is rather inconvenient, as it requires a complete backup + restore.

Samsung's firmware release was January, so you have to wonder what the holdup is for Lenovo ...

Well, it doesnt have TRIM, but to in last firmware update there is a secure erase option in BIOS, this returns SSD performance back. Using Lenovo Rescue&Recovery to backup whole system, do secure erase in BIOS (will erase completely whole SSD) and then using Lenovo Rescue&Recovery to recover system back. It works and SSD performance is back. TRIM is much better solution, but this BIOS option is Lenovo prepared solution instead of it.

to manually make "trim" to your drive without wiping all data.

well i have test this guide several weeks ago, but secure erase from BIOS has better performance effect. Anyway, still hope Lenovo will release TRIM support firmware.

The software seems Windows-specific.  If you are using NTFS, you might as well let the Samsung garbage collection do its job.  (Do very old Lenovo SSDs not even have garbage collection?)

Also, I think it's rough on your drive to do so many writes on a weekly basis -- better to do it only when the drive gets slow, and this perception is verified by benchmark.
