From the Samsung SSD FAQ:
http://www.samsungmemory.com/faq
Do all Samsung SSDs offer TRIM support?
All Samsung branded consumer solid state drives offer TRIM support.

As a customer who paid premium on his thinkpad, I'd appreciate a trim enabled firmware for my lenovo branded samsung ssd.
Thanks

Please Lenovo, are you listening or are we wasting our time here?

so a full disk backup (I use dd which does a sectore-wise backup), secure erase in bios, restore via dd will do the trick? I'm running linux and the read performance has come down from 220 MB to 140 MB/sec

A lack of TRIM support should not affect read performance, only write performance due to write amplification.
How are you testing your performance in Linux? Assuming the testing is valid, do you have a full disk? The older "ext"-series filesystems, at least, suffer from significant fragmentation when over 90% full.

Sorry, you are of course right. I measured the read performance again (using the disk utility provided with ubuntu) and everything looks stellar again.
I'm running ext4 and after half a year of heavy daily usage (software development, working with virtual machines) I have the impression that the performance has degraded somewhat.
