ThinkPad T series shipping thread - 2012 edition

I ordered a Thinkpad T420 in 1/19/12 and the estimated ship date was 2/10/12. The date hasn't changed yet, so hopefully it doesn't get delayed. Ill post an update to my order once something changes. Does anyone know if getting a SSD speeds up shipping time right now with HDD shortages or do thay come from the same place?

SSD configuration would speed up the shipping time, but keep in mind it is currently Chinese New Year, so there may be a backlog of systems being built following this week. I've noticed that all CTO orders show 15-16 business day shipping estimate.

My T420 shipped today after ordering on 1/19/12. Not too bad considering it was ordered right before Chinese new year.

I just got a notice from UPS that there's been an exception with my shipment and it's being "warehoused". Is this normal, or should I expect a delay because of this?

Well my T420 is finally on the UPS truck for delivery today, unfortunately I won't be home to receive it

Let this be a lesson for everyone - if the website says there's a 4-week lead time for a part - they mean it!

My delivery story for a ThinkPad T420s with warranty upgrade (4 yr onside next day business day support, Thinkplus, ThinkPad Protection TPP)  looks like:

motherboard was not available, but nobody told me till 03/02/2012
(To all who wait for their new T420s: The processor seems to be unavailable so the motherboard can't be assembled.)

I opened a "claim" through German support 24/01/2012,
quoting an e-mail from the support team, the team which decide about the claim should answer in 3-5 business days, but nothing happened.

I had to call the support again and again,
today they told me the number my claim is linked to, sure I call them again (of course they told me they will call me).


1 month with, 1 month without my T420s, and the next phone should ring in 3-5 business Days or up to 6 weeks until the "claiming team" decide about the now numbered complaint. (of course they told me they will call me).

Any idea how to fix this unsettled faith?

IF IT EVER ARRIVES.

Seriously, this is PATHETIC AND UNACCEPTABLE.  I ordered my laptop for my start up business needs.  I have no backup machine for travel and already had to work with two clients with my iPad which for a new company selling itself on its technology savvy is embarrasing.

My system was ordered on March 7 with the expectation of 7 to 10 business days.  This was really too long but the sales person told me the 10 days was to set expectations and that typically Lenovo would beat them.  He also promised me expedited shipping.

I ended up ordering online to make the deadline for a 12% discount.  I missed the deadline anyway but got 10%.  Now the discount is 15%.  This irritates me in context of the shipping delay.  I called the sales person the next day to ask him to fullfill his expedited shipping promise; he never responded to my voice mail.

I called customer service a couple of days later and was informed that changing the order to expedited shipping would further delay it!  Its one messed up system Lenovo has.  The CS people were rude and unhelpful.  They did finally offer me a discount (yet to be applied) but what I want is the darn machine - TODAY.

Then last Monday I saw the ship date slip another two weeks.  I sent email to customer service.  No reply (still a week later).

My machine finally shipped last Friday with a delivery date of Tuesday (tomorrow).  I don't know if the email I sent budged it along or if Lenovo's dates are just randomly generated.  I was relieved none-the-less that I'd have it in time for a business meeting in DC on Friday this week.  It seems like I can forget that as it is now stuck in customs at Louisville, KY.  Looks like I'll have to go to Costco and buy a cheap machine.

If this was a one off I'd understand, but a google serach shows that this has been happening for years.  It is truely ridiculous that Lenovo has not a) fixed the problem, b) isn't setting realistic expectations.

It is a wonder that Lenovo is getting any business at all with this type of service.  They score 0 out of 10 for customer service for me so far.  The machine had better be out of this world and the discount I was offered had better be fulfilled or I will never buy from them again and will make sure that nobody in my circle does so either.

Hey people, so I just ordered my T420s (my first lenovo) and I am eager to see what the shipping experience will be.

My model is 4170CTO has Intel graphics, webcam, Bluetooth and fingerprint reader ordered from the Lenovo US site to ship to FL. My current Estimated ship date is 2012/04/26 which seems rather ridiculous but we will wait and see.

I will be sure to update as new information comes in.

Update 1: April 5th, 2012  - Date ordered

Update 2: April 7th, 2012  - Status changed to Released to Manufacturing

Update 3: April 10th 2012 - Status changed to Shipped

                     Shipped from Shanghai, China on April 11th, Expected delivery date of April 16th.

So far the process looks to be going by rather smoothly. Hopefully there is no hold up at customs or any of those delays.

So the beast finally arrived and I am loving every second of it.

I ordered my first Lenovo laptop T420 (Spec: i5 2.5, 6GB RAM, 500 GB 5400 rpm, no bluetooth, no fingerprint reader) on March 27th.

Initially, the sales people at Lenovo told me that it would get shipped in the week of 4th April. The shipping date got postponed to 7th April and then to April 10th. Finally, my laptop was handed over to UPS today (9th April)!

According to the people at Lenovo, the shipment should arrive in 5-7 business days. Let's see and I hope that there are not too many problems at Louisville (U.S.) customs.

Anyway, I'll keep updating the status of the shipment so that it will be useful to others.

So, the laptop's in Pittsburgh just that UPS messed up and I haven't gotten it in my hands. Oh well!
