With the new year, we start a fresh discussion for members to share their order and fulfillment experiences.
We are retiring the 2011 thread here and if you were involved in an active discussion there, please continue it in this one...
Here are some common points of frequent discussion:
- How to get a system fast: Buy an in-stock standard configuration from Lenovo or a Lenovo Partner in your area. Customized systems take longer.
- Avoid Credit Holds - ensure that BOTH your bill to and ship to addresses are listed with your CC bank before ordering
- Lenovo will not bill your card until order ships - an authorization charge hold to check for available balance may show up when order is first placed.
- Estimated ship dates are based on default lead time and can vary from what was displayed on website.
- In the US and Canada, Lenovo utilizes UPS for new product shipments
- Orders may ship before the Estimated Ship Date
- Orders may enter through Alaska and pass through Louisville, KY before traveling on to final address
- Cancellation requests may take up to 2 days to process
- Requests to change configuration or other aspects of the order may require the order to be rebooked.
- Lenovo does not accept payment via international credit cards, except AMEX.

Well, after a confusing start, my thinkpad has been delivered in just over a week, quite impressive... and it is certainly more widely travelled than I am.

I have yet to get the package in my hands, not until this weekend hopefully, but so far all quite satisfactory 
Whilst I understand that the Package data references are about clearing customs in advance, I wonder whether the notice should be re-worded to make that clearer, or an informative on the tracking page. It took me a while to figure it out, and judging from the various discussions on forums elsewhere about UPS from China to Europe it might save UPS a lot of confused phone calls / emails!
I placed an order for a T520 (bumped the screen to 1600x900 and got the 9cell battery), so it'll be interesting to see how long it takes to arrive in NZ. This is my first laptop upgrade since 2006, so I'll be watching the progress like a hawk - it'll replace rather well used Toshiba Satellite that has seen better days 
- 23 Jan - Order placed.
- 24 Jan - Order has gone to processing with a est ship date of 9th Feb, so just over two weeks from placing the order.
- 28 Jan - Lenovo USB 2.0 Portable 500GB Hard Drive has shipped. $1 add-on, made sense to get it.
- 30 Jan - T520 has shipped. 7 business days before the estimated date.
- 01 Feb - Lenovo USB Hard Drive arrived.
- 01 Feb - T520 has cleared customs in Auckland NZ, waiting on DHL to deliver it.
- 07 Feb - T520 delivered. Seems it got held up with DHL and didn't make it out for a Friday delivery, Monday was also a public holiday here.

Clicking on Air Freight and entering the HAWB number noted on the tracking info page Lenovo order status links to, I got much more detailed information about the tracking.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat.
I ordered my T420 on Dec 28 2011, my ship date has changed 3 times as well.
Currently I'm showing January 30 on the status page, however Lenovo reps have been telling my wildly different ship dates - from the standard "It will ship this week (both times I called - two seperate weeks)" to "It will ship the week of February 10th (web chat)"
It really is disheartening to be such a diehard proponent of the ThinkPad brand and to feel like nobody can really tell you anything about what's going on with your order other than "wait and see". If I could get a solid answer out of somebody - HDD isn't in stock, warehouse is backlogged, we're out of RAM modules - ANYTHING - it would make me feel a little better.
I've orderered 2 other ThinkPads in the past year (T410 & E420) from Lenovo and had fast turnaround and zero problems with those orders. I guess my number was up.
Hey, my machine was shipped out on the 21st finally. But now it seems that the package is experiencing some unknown issues, the tracking log hasn't been updated for two days. I hope it will arrive by this Friday since Lenovo uses expedited service. And I hope Lenovo will finish building your T420 and ship it out soon.
