TouchPad Buttons not working anymore

Hi,

My TouchPad buttons are not working anymore.

I don't know if the problem is a hardware failure or that the buttons maybe have been disabled by mistake.

I have checked the UltraNav settings in the control panel as reset the values to default without any luck.

Furthermore I have checked the bios settings which were set to the default values.

I'm not using a mouse or any other pointers.

Does any one have any suggestion before I return the T410 to the dealer for repair. The T410 is 2 weeks 'old'.

Does the touchpad itself work? but not the buttons?

Touchpad is working and the upper buttons are also working.

I'm not aware that you can disable the buttons without disabling the pad all together. Sounds like something that would require a service call.

Actually I found a setting.

Control Panel > Mouse > Ultranav > Settings > Buttons

The buttons can be enabled and disabled here. Maybe that's your issue.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have tested the functionality but it hasn't help.

I'm having the exact same issue on a 1 week old T400 running Win7Ult64 - touchpad, trackpoint, and triplet buttons work, but the "normal" touchpad buttons on the bottom are completely non-functional.

I've installed all applicable thinkpad drivers and there are no unrecognized devices in Device Manager.

FnF8, Ultranav, touchpad Settings, Buttons menu confirms these buttons should be enabled and set to default... are the triplets causing a conflict by sharing the leftclick/righclick function with the normal ones?

There are lots of threads containing this issue, but so far I have not found a resolution.

Well, after a great deal of frustration with this issue, I found out the resolution while adding some RAM - the ribbon cable for the two buttons is under some clear tape cellophane stuff that was screwed up - the 3 wire ribbon was pulled out of its little ZIF socket, and reattaching it was all that was needed.

It took 4 screws and 7 minutes.

I have exactly the same problem: If I press any touchpad button, it is registered as clicking both left an right buttons. the problem persists while using an external mouse, and it persists in other operating systems.

I conclude therefore that it is either a BIOS problem or a real hardware fault.

I ruled out the former solution, by updating my BIOS with the Windows Lenovo Update Tool.

What can I do now? DO I have to send it in (I bought it almost a year ago, so warranty is wearin out soon).

fultzjap: can you tell me exactly, where this socket it?

Check device manager and verify its detected correctly. Did you update the touchpad drivers or support files from Windows Update (could kill the buttons). Rollback drivers if so or manually reinstall from download file.

There may be a cable connection issue but that's not as likely in my opinion as the problem.
