Battery starts discharging when I plug in the charger [ Edited ]

Ok my problem is that when i plug-in the charger my laptop battery starting discharging. Any ideas?

what does the Thinkvantage Power Manager say when you plug in the charger? does it recognise the power adapter been plugged in?

Yes it does recognise it and it says charging. Thinkvantage power manager doesn't show anything about charging it says only plugged in, good condition(for the battery)

there is a drop down menu which gives you all the information on the battery.

Yes i know but it doesn't show anything for some reason.
Also sometimes the battery light flashing while the charger is on.

how old is the battery and what model of the T series do you have?

The battery is 2 years old and my T61 model number is 6460-65G. Any suggestions?

this could be either battery problem or a motherboard problem. Do you have warranty left?

The cheapest diagnostic is to get a new battery to test whether it is the battery problem or motherboard.

Or alternatively get a Thinkplus warranty (post warranty warranty) if you don't have warranty left, as this will cover your motherboard change if it comes to that.

I just ran into this problem with a friend's notebook (not Lenovo, but I did get her to buy a ThinkPad now that she's replacing the old machine ), and it turned out to be the power brick. The cord pulled enough energy for the notebook to see that it was plugged in, but not enough to power the system or charge the battery.

Try reattaching the the plug to the power brick. On my friend's laptop, adjusting the cord restored enough power to charge. It wasn't a 'solution,' but it did show where the problem was and a new power brick ultimately solves it.

Unfortunately no warranty. But i've changed the battery but nothing, same problem
