I am one of those 'lucky; T61 owners with a defunct NVS140M video chipset. I'm not sure exactly what happens to the chip when it fails, but I wonder whether it is just the same problem associated to PS3 Yellow Light of Death, i.e. the chip overheats and the sodler joints give way.
Anyway, the real reason for my post is to seek help. The cost of replacing the mobo in my notebook here in the UK is WAY above the cost of replacing the entire notebook; sadly neither of which I can really afford. So I got to thinking about one of these docking stations which acpt external Graphics cards, and was interested to know whether anyine can tell me, Will the machine work with this card alone?? i.e. will it actually get past POST etc.
Th cost of a dock/port replicator including a graphics gard is almost 25% of teh replacement MOBO here in the UK.
Please feel free to post your views on this matter. I love my notebook, I miss her dearly!!
