the drive itself would need BDE/FDE built into it and none of the current lenovo external drive offerings have encryption capability.   however, even if external BDE/FDE drives were available i'm not sure a thinkpad (or any other notebook for that matter) could control the drive's encryption feature.   the drive may have to be on the IDE bus for encryption to be controllable.
