Cannot enable VT on BIOS, T61

Hi,

I am trying to enable Virtualization Technology on my T61. The option is visible in the BIOS but I cannot change the setting.

I have checked everything I have found in other articles:

Processor is compatible (Intel T7250)

BIOS version is ok (2.26)

Entered BIOS from cold boot

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Maliha,

Thanks for the response. I have had a look at the BIOS options and I don't seem to have an option for Hardware DEP.

The closest I could see was under Security > Memory Protection where there was an option for Execution Prevention but as with the VT setting, this cannot be changed. (Current setting is enabled)

Any other ideas?

my T61 (14.1 inch widescreen) with T7250 (bios version 2.27) has an entry for enabling and disabling virtualisation technology under CPU option in the bios menu.

I also have an entry for enabling and disabling virtualization technology under CPU option in the bios menu but I am not able to change it. It is currently set to 'Disabled' and the [Enter] button to change the setting is not accessible.

It sounds like we have the same model of laptop (7664-19G). Can you actually change the VT setting in your BIOS? If so, did you have to do anything to be able to change it?

i just press enter and a drop down menu allows me to select enable or disable.

Do you have any password protection on your bios? can you change any other settings in your bios?

Oh dear - Schoolboy error!

I had a supervisor password set which was stopping changes to certain settings including enabling/disabling VT! Once entering BIOS with this password rather than standard power-on password I was able to make the changes.

Though this post is over one year old,am hoping someone will see it and assist.

I have the same problem you had, I can get to the point of enabling/disabling VT but I cannot make any changes. Unfortunately for me I do not have the BIOS supervisor password.

Any idea how I can go round it? Could there be a standard password for all ThinkPad laptops. Am using a T420.

No mechnism was included to rest or recover a lost supervisor password, and I'd advise you NOT to remove the cmos battery, if you do your system will become unusable. 

The only solution offered by lenovo is to replace the system board.
