DVD/CD-RW multi as an external device

I have a second harddrive in the Ultrabay in my T61P.  However, occasionally I need to use my DVD/CD-RW drive.  Is there a cable that exists that can connect my Lenovo DVD/CD-RW (FRU 39T2829) drive to a USB port so I can use them both at the same time.

Hello,

Older generations of ThinkPads could utilize an adapter called the Portable Drive Bay 2000 to mount an internal CD, DVD or floppy diskette drive in an enclosure that connected back to the ThinkPad via PCMCIA interface, however, I do not think that it is compatible with a T61p.

Have you considered obtaining an external USB DVD±RW disc drive?  I purchased one recently for use with my ThinkPad X100e for about $40.00.

On ebay you can find some 3rd party solutions.

But never tried them myself. And it's not that cheap for an empty case.

I would recommend to follow goretsky advice and buy a external USD DVD-RW. It's pretty cheap, it's easy and it works for sure.
