The cause for electric shocks from the body/exposed metal like notebooks and other appliances can often be traced back to faulty wiring (lack of proper earth/ground) in the electric mains.

It seems you have already ruled that out by plugging out from the mains, and then checked if the electric shocks persist.

Try this again, If shocks persist, get to Lenovo service, otherwise a call to your electrician is in offing.

Re: Electric Shock from Fingerprint reader on T61

well, i've tried to unplug from the mains, but the shocks still persist.

so i can draw a conclusion here that if the battery is replacing the mains, i guess the problem is in the T61.

maybe there is a faulty wiring like Bajpai said.

i have to add here that, my T61 is brand new, i just bought it 2 weeks ago.

it will be very dissapointing if have to return it to lenovo service by now.

but i guess theres no other way..

maybe theres another solution before i return it to Lenovo service??

Could the problem be that you have not earthed yourself much like getting out of a car and touching the car door.

Perhaps try to earth yourself prior to touching screen to eliminate a static charge build up. Alternatively ask a colleague to repeat what you have done to see if they get the same result?

If it happens when it's the power cord isn't plugged in then it's not a dangerous problem.  Make sure it's not an electrostatic discharge from you TO the computer.  If it's definitely a shock to you FROM the computer then this is not normal and you need to call Tech Support (again, not dangerous to you but could be detrimental to the computer).
