My friend gave me a T43 (WinXP Pro, 2669-U18) in order to reinstall XP. during the process I've also updated the bios to 1.29. I've got the famous 2010 error, and at first I've thought that the hard drive is not the original one. I've ran the firmware update CD, and the system tells it's the HTS541060G9AT00 with firmware MB30A60A, with no firmware update necessary. I've double checked and according to my friend the hard drive has never been replaced.
Anyone has an explanation for this?

Does the drive have the IBM FRU # on it?
Secondly, if it does, what's the date on the drive? There's a reason for this question on my part...

unfortunately the computer is not in front of me anymore. Is there a way to find this information without taking out the hard drive? I can ask my friend to do this.
What do you have in mind?

I don't know how to identify the IBM part number, but this are the numbers that I see.
Model: HTS541060G9AT00 Feb-06
P/N 13G1583 MLC: DA1175
There is also a barcode with the number 13G1583DA11750P62 and under that the s/n XDG09DD0H
What do you learn from this?
again, this is the original hard drive that came with the notebook. no upgrades/replacments were done.

IBM-issued hard drives have a black sticker with two sets of numbers, one says ASM P/N and the other FRU P/N
Anything like that on the given drive?
