I have a been using a T60 that has been running perfectly. I tried to deploy it to a woman in my organization. Unfortunately, the reader fails to scan her finger. It reads my finger perfectly but will not scan the small fingers. I have tried erasing all FP data and resetting the chip as well as wiping the system and reinstalling Win7. It does not work on the smaller fingers. I have tried all fingers including the thumb. No luck.
System is using current drivers.
Any ideas?

Hello,
Try erasing the stored fingerprints, cleaning the fingerprint reader with a moist (not wet, just dampened) isopropyl alcohol pad and having your co-worker with the small fingers was them throroughly with soap and hot water to remove any moisturizing creams, oils and the like which might be on her hands before scanning. Also, have her press harder and move her finger slower across the sensor.
You may also want to try registering her fingerprints on another device, just to see if the behavior is unique to this ThinkPad.

I did all that. FP data erased. Woman washed her hands and even tried my T520. Her fingers scan perfectly on the 520 but as soon as we go to the T60...no go. I even tried my daughter's fingers. nothing.
Could it be a sensor?

Hello,
I suppose the sensor could be failing. Do you have another T60 you can test on, or another fingerprint reader/palm rest assembly you can swap?

Try this...
Rotate her finger by about 45 degrees and swipe it. This will give a wider surface to scan that will cover the full width of the reader.
This occurred to me because when I register my prints, I always register my primary fingers straight, then 45 degrees in each direction, so it will recognise the finger no matter what angle I swipe from and at 45degrees even the smallest finger will cover the full width of the scanner. This may be a viable work-a-round because my theory is if the full sensor width isn't covered, it doesn't register it as a sucessful swipe.
