Getting hard drive does not exist message when trying to load XP

I am trying to load Windows XP (tried SP1 and SP2) on a Thinkpad T60P when I do I get a message that the hard drive is not found. When I try and load Linux it finds the hard drive. I booted with a DOS disk and ran FDISK and it found the hard drive. I am not sure what is going on and any help would be appreciated.

My sincere sympathies. I faced the same problem. If you have an XP disk, try to change your BIOS start up boot source to CD.

I figured it out. I upgraded the BIOS on the drive and that fixed the issue

Usually going into the BIOS and setting the sata to compatibility mode will do the trick. Maybe the defaults on the new BIOS are set to compatibility.
