Hard Drive Space limits

My hard drive has 50% of space that I cannot access and clear.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  When I do a scan using Drive space manager it says that this area cannot be scanned due to access restrictions.

check your rescue and recovery backup, and delete any backups that you don't need.

Thank you, this is exactly what I thought was the problem, but I cannot seem to find where to manage the location of the backups.  Can you direct me?

go into your Rescue and Recovery from start, program, thinkvantage, rescue and recovery. Now click on the advanced tab on the top menu bar and select delete backup.
