How can I save and reload existing BIOS on a T61?

  1. Have a T61 with a back level BIOS version. Plan to upgrade HD from 250GB to 500GB. If I have to upgrade BIOS want to save existing BIOS in case any problems with new BIOS.  Lenovo site does not have existing level available for download.
  2. Downloaded 2 different versions of WINPHLASH and tried to save BIOS,  Got message that existing BIOS location is wrong.  Don't understand this as I have saved and loaded BIOS many times on other motherboards.  Neither version of this utility came with any instructions.
  3. Am I using the right utility?  If not what should I download to save my BIOS?  There is reference to 2 different forms of BIOS in this Thinkpad when I use the Thinkvantage utility to check BIOS levels.  What are the 2 different forms and how do you back up and restore both of them?

Re: How can I save and reload existing BIOS on a T61?

My system is currently at version 2.21 which is not available for download.  I want to back up my current version in case there are difficulties with newer BIOS.  Will installing a newer version of BIOS from Lenovos download sites give me the option to backup and later restore my current BIOS?

This is why I was looking at using the Phoenix Winphlash (or Winpflash) BIOS utility to back up the existing BIOS.

When I execute the Winphlash utility it wants file name containing BIOS even if i just want to backup the BIOS and not load another version.  Could  I specify a bogus file which is the right size and will the Winphlash utility back up the existing BIOS?   Saw someone with a T60 looking at doing this.
