I am contemplating installing Win 7 on my T60 and would like to know if this is a reasonable upgrade to do. Are there drivers for the important devices, chip set ,video etc. ? or is that not a problem. Does anyone, that have made the change and have all devices recognized and functioning wish to comment on your experience?
I have looked through the drivers in the support section for the T60 on this site and didn't find Windows 7 drivers. All the software I am currently using works on other Win 7 installations but I have not tried it on this unit .

W7 runs fine on T60.
After a clean install, you'll need to get the ATi driver for Vista, then proceed to Windows Update to pick up the rest of the drivers, most of them are readily available.
Stuff like hotkeys and Power Manager needs do be done manually, though.

I have W7 on girlfriends t61 and runs great.
I would max out your ram with one 2gb + 1gb stick.
Her laptop only sees 3gb of ram with 4gb installed.

If she realy has a T61, then it should be able to use upto 8gb, but if it's a T60, then 3 is the max.
If you have a 32bit windows version installed, then I'd recommend you upgrade to a 64 bit version.

Hello,
I ran the 32-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7 on a ThinkPad T60 for a while. No problems noted.

Thank you all for responding, it appears there are good results, with a little tweaking, to make the move to Windows 7. XP has served me well over the years and I know it will not be supported in the future, so I am looking to make the conversion soon. I don't want to buy newer computer if I don't need to. \\
Thanks for your help

so did you make the conversion? I'm planning on doing the same. How did it work out for you?
TIA

I have done it as well on my T60, without any problems. I have not even tinkered with ATI drivers, after a few updates by Win 7 itself, it recognized my ATI card. That was all. Now it runs smoothly and quickly with the max 3 Gb RAM.
