Instructions for Docking if T60p is in Hibernation?

I have a mini doc, and often try to dock the computer, then turn it on.  It wakes up from hibernation in the docking station and finds new devices and sometimes really freaks out, changes screen resolution etc.  Are there instructions for docking from standby, or docking from hibernation.   Or should I only be docking while the T60 is completely turned off.
