Would the hard drive from a Think pad T61 install and work in a Lenovo 3000 N100 ?
I did a crucial scan for memory and they would work.

Yes - both models use SATA HDDs. The HDD must be partitioned new after moving.
Both laptops use the PC2-5300 RAM. So you can use the same RAM in both laptops.

Thanks . I did change out the 2 GB Memory moduel from the T61 to the 3000 and it seemed this one ,the 3000 semed slower . Could be just the heat . I changed them back . Could be just the heat and humidity as when I turn on a fan toward the table it sits on , the machine seemed smoother .
By partitioning ,do you mean format , partition and reinstall?
Reguard the switch out . I had a seller of a HP ,same model say he could trade out exact machines and change the HD and it would work with my info and OS on it , not so ?

Is only one RAM built in or two with different size? Two with different size CAN cause problems.

I don't know, whether Lenovo 3000 and Thinkpad T61 are too different not.
Either you might get a blinking cursor in the upper left corner instead of booting (=bootsector not found) or Windows might crash with a blue screen.
With luck, the N100 boots and then you can add unrecognized device drivers.
You can just test it ![]()

Thanks again . Right now the N100 has 1.50 GB RAM . I switched out the 1 GB for the 2 GB from the T61 .
I might try both the HD and Ram again when I get the energy .
I seem to like the N100 better . I bought the T61 for my girlfrein but she like the HP square screen better than the T61 widescreen.

OK. I looked at the directions here for Hard Drive removal.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mob
Page 63 and 64
I took off the cover and can not figure out how the HD comes out .
OK I figured it out.
The N100 starts with the T61 HD in it , but it hangs with a black screen and mouse pointer.Have to press the power button .It then proceeds .
Also the HD from the N100 has 2 [ ' s on eech side and will not fit in the T61.

Thanks again . One more question .
How to change the Hard Drive caddys ?
In other words How to remove the caddy from the hard drive ?
I don't want to ruin the hard drives in either one ,

Solved . Caddies 2 screws on each side . HD from N100 into T61 updated drives. HD from T61 into N100 ,reinstalled OS ,updates, programs and drivers.
