Hello there,
I 've just bought ThinkPad T61 brand new, for 500 $
Speed: 2.0
Memory: 2048
I mean this should be fast enough,
anyway it takes about 5 to 6 min just to start up, and its windows XP Server 2003 with SP3
and I have only one program installed, its tunes, and nothing else, the computer was always slow like that, even my 2 friends bought the same computer and its as slow as mine,
and if you guys ask why its cheap, will because in my University they sell it for that price to let everyone ( even the Poor guys ) to buy a good laptop for a good price.![]()
so what do you think the problem, my friend said that its maybe because of windows server 2003 with SP3, but I don't know, And when my University give me the laptop, they don't give you a format CD, so that's mean I can't recover it to factory setup, but I am thinking of buying a new CD, the problem I can't find XP anymore, every shop I see have Vista Only,
so do you think I will buy Vista so I could have a Fast computer instead of a SLWOOOO one, and if I upgrade to Vista, is the touch pad, the point track, and the finger print thing will still work, ( I mean is there a drivers for windows Vista )
I know I write a lot, but please help me guys to get the most out of my computer.![]()
Thanks in Advance

Hello,
congratulations to your new Thinkpad! And yes, it will be fast enough.
I would suggestt to uninstall Antivirus like Norton or get an update to Norton 2009.
Antivir or AVG are making a good job too. Uninstall thirdparty Firewall, if it is installed.
If you install Vista then, all programs will be working. Install Vista and the download the program
System Updater from Lenovo Homepage.
It will install all necessary drivers for you, even for XP, if you´ll get a copy.
For further instructions read the Vista clean install guide on NB.
Regards
Andreas
