Problem with T-61 Mouse

Hello There,

 I had problems with the left click button, meaning i used to press it and it didn't work sometime, on other occasions it worked fine. Then it developed another issue i.e. right click started getting pressed on its own. I started using an external USB mouse but it worked for only a day or so and again i started experiencing the same problem.

My windows were quite old as well so i decided to refresh everything hoping that mouse issue will be fixed as well. Now that I have installed Windows XP SP3 and downloaded all the new drivers from lenovo official website, the problem still persists. 

can you please help me?

was this problem occurring with the left click button on the trackpoint? or the trackpad?

Also, try to diagnose which of the navigation buttons on your laptop is faulty, by going into your BIOS menu, then disabling the trackpad first, if this produces no faulty, then disable the trackpoint and enable the trackpad.

This should give you some idea which of the device is causing problem.

sorry for not furnishing complete information; this is type 7659-CTO 

Also i tired the options you proposed and it seems to be the trackpad because it trackpoint seems to work fine. 

so what should be done now please?

you would probably need to replace the entire palmrest, or switch off the trackpad permanently and use the trackpoint instead.

you could also try to left off the keys on the touchpad and then put it back again, this sometimes may work. If that don't work, then get a new palmrest.
