After upgrading Firefox from 3.6.28 (which appeared to have memory leaks and security issues) to the latest version 12 on my T61 I can no longer scroll through Web pages on the touch pad.
Is there a work around for this issue or should I downgrade Firefox

I have both 12 and 3.6.16 installed on my T61, can you describe exactly what method of scrolling you're trying to use and I'll try it on mine.

I mean that scrolling down a page by stroking down the right hand edge of the trackpad does not work on Firefox 12 (nor on versions 10 and 6 which I also tried). This works fine with version 3.

Firefox 12.
Update 2.1
O.S. Mircrosoft xp pro
Likes crashing, sending reports and restoring last session. Very annoying.

Thanks for your report. I see the Synaptics Ultranav Driver for XP listed in Optional updates. Do you have any advice about installing this update? I have Synaptics version 7.5.17.24 installed currently.

according to device manager I have 15.3.16.1 installed on windows 7 x64, which is probably useless information considering you're using XP.
I'd install the update, not sure if that's the cause though. You might want to try running firefox in safemode, perhaps one of your extensions is causing the problem. If it works in safemode, then it would just be a matter of disabling them one at a time until you find the one causing the conflict. I'd also check on firefox forum, most problems you run into will have been reported already so you might find an easy solution.

Thanks for the good advice to try the Firefox forum, I got the answer there.
Changing the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled value from -1 to 1 in the about:config page solved the problem.

Curious... I have done this hack with Firefox 3.6 and it did solve the problem. Since I updated to Firefox 12 the scrolling is gone again, and the hack does not work!
