I replied to the PM you sent me, but you sent the wrong model number. The serial number may be wrong too because it doesn't match the model you sent in the PM, nor the model you posted here in the forum.

Re: Replace motherboard for T61 (6459-CTO)

Tuus:

Add me to the list of those that have the T61 with a failed GPU.  I have the Type 6459-CTO.  I've already purchased another laptop, so I just want to sell the current one for parts or buy the parts in order to fix it up before I sell it.  Either way, just trying to get some spending money now.  I figured there are quite a few good parts such as Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (PN 42V8190), 15.4 WSXGA+ TFT LCD (PN 42V8287), 2GB PC2-5300 667MHz 2 DIMM (PN 41W2063), Keyboard (PN 42V8195), Trackpoint Touchpad (PN 42V8295), 100 GB 7200 RPM HDD (PN 42V8169), DVD/CD-RW (PN 42V8172).  Battery was old, so it wouldn't keep a charge for long.  Also, I have the Microsoft Key that I do not use (I believe for Vista).

Thank you!

Hi,

Since you're only planning on selling the system you'd probably be best to just sell it as it is. The boards with the updated GPU are extremely rare. As for your system, I didn't look up the specs of the parts you listed, but I believe they are all common parts, so you're not likely to get a lot for the system working, or not. If I could see the system and it's full specs, I could offer a better opinion.

Re: Replace motherboard for T61 (6459-CTO)

[ Edited ]

Hello TuuS,

I hope that I am replying to the right person as I am new to the Lenova Community and, from what I read, you are the genius for solving motherboard problems.  I have a T 61 on which is written the following:

Type 7664-1LU   Product ID: 76641LU

I hope this identifies it well.  I bought it in January 2008.

A short while ago, my Lenova would not start and just gave a long beep followed by two short beeps.  There seemed to be power getting to the DVD drive, etc. however.  Then a few days later, it started working normally again but now it again refuses  to start and just gives the one long and two short beeps.  I took it to where I bought it and they said it was a problem with the RAM.  They installed a used RAM and claimed that it worked but when I got it home, it still didn't work.  I took it back and they put my old RAM back in but it still won't start.  The fact that it worked properly after not working but then reverted to not working made me think that perhaps something had not failed but that there was a bad connection somewhere.

I love my Lenova and paid a lot for it so I am loathe to chuck it and buy a new machine but the place where I bought said that replacing the motherboard would be very costly.  I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks so much,

Bob
