Scored !! a T7400 2.16 Core 2 duo on the cheap !! and now ....

 Ok ....  After many online searches, local calls to computer shops, etc. etc. .. I finally scored a cpu for my 1.66 T2300 powered T60.

   I was begining  to loose hope I could find one and was considering lowering my sights to a 2.0 T7200 but I played the early bird this morning and got the worm.    T7400 inbound to me from Chicago as we speak .... $26 tested and working... Im all fired up and excited.

   What do I need to do now?   Bios update?? Is their a specific Date I should look for that will insure I have the right Bios?

   What are you guys doing when installing a  used chip.. throw it in?  clean off old Silver and re apply ?? new silver over old?  Cleaning the used chip?

no it is a drop in upgrade, no updates necessary.

I clean off the old thermal paste and reapply a fresh layer of thermal paste.

   Chemical ? Scraping it off?

i use some methylated spirits.

26 bucks for a T7400? Man, your are very lucky!

 I felt lucky when I saw it..   It came from a damaged laptop. Some guys just want to recoup a little and have no other worries.  I just passed on parting out an old laptop of mine that had a cracked screen because I couldn't power it up and double check it before selling... i just didn't want any returns or unhappy folks if something had changed since i put it on the shelf....  My ebay rep is %100 and i just didn't feel like running that rep through a gauntlet over $50 or so of parts.

 I'd seen quite a few T7200/ 2.0 s at $35 to $40 .... cheapest T7400/2.16  id seen til this one was $60..  most were $80 and up.

That's a very fine CPU, and an excellent deal.

My daughter has it in her T60 (see my signature) and it runs extremely well given the age of the T6x platform.

@Kyle: I am planning to buy a T7200 on Fleabay, around 45 bucks was the cheapest I have seen.

Finally I bought a used T7200 on fleabay, it was 43 bucks with shipping. Installing it will be the 2nd phase of my upgrade project on my T60, the first was RAM (now 3 Gb). The next phase would be the HDD (with clean installation of Win 7) and the battery. More to come...
