Slipstream issues

Hello, I'm trying to create a slipstreamed version of Windows XP Pro SP2, but it seems like I need SATA drivers to install reinstall XP, and I wonder what kind of drivers I need for a ThinkPad T60 of type 1952-TCO, the only other info I can give is that it's a 40Gb harddrive...

Re: Slipstream issues

You don't necessarily have to slipstream the drivers into the XP install disk you're making.

If you're not quite sure what chipset the system uses, just install your custom XP on the computer but use "compatibility mode" for the HDD in the BIOS instead of "SATA". Once XP is installed, then install the Intel chipset first followed by the SATA drivers. Then on reboot, just reset the HDD from "Compatibility Mode" back to "SATA"  - and you're in business.

This method is preferable because you install the motherboard chipset first (which is perhaps more important than the SATA drivers). This way, you reduce the chances of something getting buggered up in the long run.

Re: Slipstream issues

icantux's suggestion is probably the best way to proceed, however if required the S-ATA driver, with instructions, can be found here

Re: Slipstream issues

I believe certain SATA drivers (Intel, nVidia) are native to XP SP2 (but not SP1 and earlier).  Have you tried installing and failed?

XP-SP2 stock doens't carry AHCI 82801HBM SATA drivers. Perhaps it supports some early, early ones, but doubtful on any newer SATA controller drivers.

Re: Slipstream issues

Good to know.  SP2 had my nVidia 430 SATA drivers but that's an older vintage chipset than the T6x series.
