System Support - Autodetect T61p

The auto-detect feature on the Lenovo Thinkpad Support page has never worked on my machine. I would be nice if it did. It sure is a pain to find the machine numbers each time I go to that page. Anyone have any suggestions? Can you point me to a FAC page that may reveal the secret?

If you're not using Internet Explorer, it will not work.

I had the same problem use IE9 32 bit version or it will not detect your computer.If you have both versions of IE9 32 & 64 bit open your start menu go to all programs find the File that says Internet Explorer ( Not Internet Explorer 64 bit) and open from there and you can then go to lenovo home page and it should auto detect your system.hope this helps

You also need to approve installing the activeX extension, then run the auto detect again, this time you'll need to approve installing again, but it's a different approval, first was approving the browser to allow it, second is approving windows to allow it. Then run auto detect yet again and it will work.

And yes, it only works with Internet Explorer browser. That really should be changed, but there may be security issues with making a safe add-on for other browsers.

Since these things are designed to collect and transmit info about your system, they are often blocked at several levels, but be patient and you can get it to work.
