model : T42 , TYPE : 2374-JU4,SERIAL NO. : 99-9HCWG
WHEN I CONNECTED USB PORT TO MY LAPTOP FOR CHARGING MY IPOD ,IT SHOWED "BLUE SCREEN KERNEL PROBLEM"
IT SAID TO RESTART TO RESOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.I TRIED MANY TIMES BUT FAILED.
NOW,ITS SHOWING "WINDOWS COULD NOT RESTART B'COZ FOLLOWING FILE MISSING OR CORRUPTED"
"<WINDOWS ROOT> SYSTEM32/HAL.DLL> " PLEASE REINSTALL A COPY OF ABOVE FILE OR REPAIR...
WHEN PRESS "ACCESS IBM" BLUE BUTTON IT IS SHOWING 3 OPTIONS
1.ESC FOR NORMAL START UP
2.F8 TO ENTER BIOS SETUP AND
3.F12 TO START UP TEMPORARY DEVICES
PLEASE HELP ME TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM..............................

It appears like your T42 doesn't have service partition. Re-installing Windows will almost certainly solve the problem. Nonethless, if you're a techie, you might be able to solve the issue without having to install Windows by following solutions here:- http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&r
