Welcome to the forum!
Could you please post the full 7-character model number of your T42 (2378-???) so we could direct you to the correct drivers?

I also purchased second hand IBM Thinkpad T42 laptop and reload Windows XP. I also have problem finding driver for wireless network adaptor.
Basically, on my Device manager: Network Controller, PCI modem, and USB Controller are the three that the drivers are not set up properly.
My model is:
I would be very appreciated if any of you could help me figure out how to fix this problem. I have been sitting more than 4 hours to try all drivers but seems i missed something or did it wrong. Thanks again.

What I did was i downloaded nearly all the drivers, but i think the ones that helped me were the 'Ethernet Intel Pro/100/1000 LAN Adaptor, the 'Thinkpad Dual-Band ab and 802.11abg wireless LAN mini PCI Adaptor' (althought that it for wireless internet, so you might not want that, or you just install it anyway) and also the 'AMR soft modem adapter'. I dont know the specs of your computer because yours is a 'Configue to order (CTO)' model, but i would assume the specs would be roughly the same. Also make sure you install the ATI radeon graphics card/video driver aswell because it makes the system run heaps quicker (its the ATI radeon/FireGL on the support page). Although check if it is a ATI radeon driver. I would also recommend downloading the PC Doctor, as this shows you what is installed (has drivers for) on the system and also makes sure they are operating correctly. I hope this helps.

I would not how to solve that issue, so sorry about that mate. I had a quick google search though and I think you can download it?, but its something to do with the windows operating system, and not the actual hardware of the computer. so try to download it, ask someone else or call up microsoft because i dont think its a thinkpad problem, its more related to the operating system. Hopefully ive shed some light on the issue

Hello, I have a similar problem.
Hardware + software:
Lenovo thinkPad T42p 2373ZLG, Win XP Pro 32 + Service Pack3.Having installed Access Connections ver 5.02 (7VCX55WW) and Intel PROSet Wireless WiFi ver. 12.00.400(everything from LENOVO update webpage).
During start of Windows I got reported: "S24EvMon.exe application error" and Wireless Manager error. As well my wireless connection was not working (under Access Connections as well as Windows).
I uninstalled Intel PROSet Wireless WiFi ver. 12.00.400 driver and I replaced it with Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG, 2915ABG Network Connection Software Version 184.108.40.206 - 1YWC54WW from LENOVO download webpage.
1. The problem of S24EvMon.exe application error desapeared and there is no more Intel Wireless Manager error report during start up of Windows.2. The Wireless adaptor is working under Windows (there is detection of WiFi network) but WPA2-PSK encryption is not supported.
3. There is no WiFi detection under Access Connection.
I would appreciate any suggestion with regard to making alive my Access Connections .

It seams I have got this problem finally resolved !
1. Download "Acces Connections Deployment Guide" (April 15, 2008) from Lenovo support webpage.
2. Refer to "Appendix B" - The integrated Access Connections package.
3. Do not uninstall any Thinkpad or ThinkVantage software or drivers.
4. Do EXACTLY as is written in items 1), 2), 3), 4) and 5) - give attention to RENAME some folders if it is mecessary - some of
them may have different names after unpacking of new software or drivers (for example the folder containing new version of
Access Connections ver 5.02 "ACCON" should be copied to ACCONWLD and renamed to CONWIZ).
5. After reboot check your local WLAN settings in Access Connections (SSID, encryption...)
6. Your LAN and WLAN should be working under Access Connections like new one.
