T42p laptop finger print sensor problems

I upgraded to Windows 7, had problems and then reinstalled XP Pro.  Lost all the IBM software features: Access IBM and esp the fingerprint software signin feature.  When I reboot now I get a message saying that the unit does not recognize the finger print sensor.  How do I fix this?  One suggestion sent me to the Toolbox and from there to the Device Manager, and then said to locate the Biometric tab.  There was none.  Any suggestions?
