in your bios is your security chip enabled?

I am not sure. How can I check this if I can't get the machine to load up? I have had this laptop for two years and never had this problem. Thanks

press F1 when your laptop just boots up. If that don't work, then i would think you are having some sort of hardware problem.
if the embedded security chip is the culprit, then you would need a brand new motherboard.

It seems as if it is going to be a new motherboard. How much will a new motherboard run me and is it worth it to replace it?
Thanks for your help.

a new motherboard would cost lot more than you getting the post warranty service agreement from lenovo. T60 is good machine, but unfortunately there are occasions where there hardware problems, but usually it is very rare.
Consider how much T60 that Lenovo sold, the failure rate of this machine is quite small. For Lenovo Thinkpads... T60, T61 with Intel GPU, T400 and T500 are all very reliable machines.
This is why i buy Thinkpad above all else.

Hiya,
I had this problem yesterday with T60 and the only answer was to carry out a complete motherboard transplant.
Not to much of an issue had fun doing it and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Sorry but if you cannot sort it out in the Bios then this is the only option .....
