T60 Memory Upgrade

I have a friends T60 for a boost in ram. Want to install two 1Gig sticks. Installed stick in first slot OK. Second slot has what appears to be a black plastic plug in the pin slot and won't pop up. Will the plug come out? Is the slot blanked off for a reason? Thanks in advance.
