Re: Memory upgrade

I just Upgraded my T60 from 1gb to 3gb and it was easy. I dont know what Model you have so I'll tell you what i did. I went to the "Support and Downloads" Page Typed in My Product ID # in my case 2007-4bu (Found on bottom of laptop) Then clicked "Guides and Manuals" and Downloaded the "System Maintenance" PDF. This handy document shows you how to replace EVERYTHING, And If you bought your laptop second hand you can read the charts using your prod.id# and it will tell you what features your laptop was born with.

I would advise to upgrade your RAM as high as possible.

Hope this helps.

Re: Memory upgrade

The system maintenance guide is swell as indicated. It has all the required info.

Another guide with good visual depiction of changing memory is at http://www.memorydepot.com/guide_install.asp

Re: Memory upgrade

I want to upgrade memory from 1GB to 3GB.

I am using T60 200763U.

The current memory is 1G DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM (PC2-5300)

I want to upgrad to 3GB.

1. Is there a second slot in the T60 such that can add a 2nd memory of 2GB ?

2. there are several types for 2GB: one is DDR2-667 and another DDR2-800. Will it work is the cards are mixed? and any changes in the BIOS required on rebooting?

Thanks for helping

Re: Memory upgrade

Greetings,

If you want instructions on simply installing your memory, you can find that on this site:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-63959.html

The heading on the site should be "Hardware removal and installation - ThinkPad T60, T60p". If you go under "Customer Replaceable Units",  look for the word "Memory". You'll see an installation movie clip, a removal movie clip and the instructions.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks,
Mark

Do NOT PM me with technical issues. Post in the forum for assistance. Thanks

Yes.

> 2. ...Will it work is the cards are mixed?

Yes. There may be a minor reduction in memory performance but it will be imperceptible.

> and any changes in the BIOS required on rebooting?

No, the system will detect the added memory automatically.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-46464

This is the manual that you want. One of the slot is on the bottom of the laptop, and another is under the keyboard, which requires you to remove the keyboard and palm rest to access.

The maximum size you can upgrade to is 2 gigs.

Jin Li
