I've had this problem for a long time, and have done many factory reinstalls, but still the problem persists no matter how hard I try to get rid of it.
My T60 200772U would occasionally, upon loading a DVD or opening a video file, freeze. The screen turns black and hard disk activity totally stops. The computer doesn't respond until I power off and power on again. I don't think it's a software issue as this has happened on a fresh restore.
Any ideas what could be wrong? I'll probably take it to a service centre if I can't fix it.
Thanks,
Jason

ran the diagnostic software PC Doctor 5 on your laptop, and see whether your laptop hardware is up to scratch??? Sounds like a hardware problem, as you have correctly suggested, do you still have warranty???
Also check your CPU and GPU temperature using HWmonitor (free download of the web) and see what is the temperature of your CPU and GPU. It could be overheating, have you tried to open up your laptop, and see whether there is large amount of dusts collected???

I ran PC Doctor before and I don't think it picked up anything but will try it again. Here is the HWMonitor output:

That's idling. Perhaps it's time to take it into service.
