Re: T60 ugrade questions

@Tuus: That is my dilemma. The T5500 is cheap, but it is 1.66Ghz. A T2700 is 2.3 Ghz, but it is quite expansive. Because of the 3 Gb limit for my T60, I am planning to use 32bit Win7. Does a Core 2 Duo processor have a real benefit in this configuration, even it is 1.6 Ghz? Which processor to choose? Your advices are highly appreciated.

Re: T60 ugrade questions

The T5500 in my machine is faster then the T2600 i have in my other T60. It also runs cooler then the T2600 CPU.

Re: T60 ugrade questions

Thank you again! I have checked CPUs on FleaBay, a T5500 is very cheap, and a T7200 is around 50 bucks, so I am thinking about to replace the exixting T2400 with one of them. I'd have never imagined that my laptop is that upgradable!

Re: T60 ugrade questions

BTW, what sofware do you use for CPU performance measurement? (Win XP).

Re: T60 ugrade questions

Just ran Passmark test on my 1.66  T2300 today. My cpu scored a 927 ...  The T5500 average is 926.

Re: T60 ugrade questions

On the linked page there is: the biggest performance gains are associated with 3D rendering and media encoding tasks.

If I am an ordinary user, meaning Lotus Notes/Symphony, web browsing/surfing, and 5250 emulation, does it worth to choose t5600 vs. 2700?

Re: T60 ugrade questions

hum, well in general performance the T5500 is still better then the T2300, T2400, T2500 from my personal tests. It also run slightly cooler then the T2xxx series and is easier on the battery life.

But if you are getting the T2700, then the T5500 won't beat it in the performance department. It will have the raw grant from those higher clock cycles to run through the processes.

Re: T60 ugrade questions

OK, it seems that my decision is based on price. The T5600 is half as cheap as a T2700.
