T60 won't boot recieve beep codes 1-3-4-3 any sugestions on what this could be?

Hi guys,

My T60, suddenly won't boot. I cannot access the BIOS. I received the following beep sequence: 1-3-4-3.

I was looking around and got as a message for phoenix BIOS beep code "Test 512K base memory". Anybody has an explanation, and should i do or change?

I don't have one of these, but if it is a memory error, the easiest way to test is to substitute known good memory. If you have two sodimms installed, remove them and install one at a time and test. 

Sometimes removing and resetting the memory is enough to fix the problem. 

If this doesn't help, then a good "generic" method I use on all laptops with a no-boot situation is to remove all the drives and cards, then see if it will boot to bios,or  post at all. I've seen bad drives cause a system not to post, so removing anything that's not needed will be an easy way to narrow down the cause. Usually if it still won't post, you'll have a system board failure.

I believe that model is limited ot 3GB maximum, so keep that in mind when shopping for replacement.

Hello,

i had the same beep code on my T60 and couldnt find the sequence 1-3-4-3 in the hardware maintenance manual.

Seems to turn out that one DIMM socket is defect. Both memory modules are working in the upper slot as long there is not mounted a memory module in the lower slot.

Does anybody have an idea? Mainboard defect?

You can try to clean the socket, or look for damage or foriegn material in the slot but you might have to disassemble the laptop to get a good look at it. If the slot is bad, repairing the board would be difficult and unless it was a very expensive board, I wouldn't even try. Since your T60 has a 3gb limit you might consider installng a 2gb chip in the one working slot and use it that way, or if you want to replace the board I may have one laying around in my workshop if you have something in trade to offer, some "unobtanium", "gold-pressed latinum" or perhaps an "Orion slave-girl" would be a nice trade

ps. also look for evidence of liquid spill, or corrosion.
