T61 CPU/SMBIOS/Keyboard Issue - but with passed diagnostics?

Hello -

Thank you all for this fantastic resource!

My '08 T61 is having issues:

Keyboard – loss of key functionality during Windows operation (but fine during BIOS access and startup)

Rescue & Recovery 4 diagnostics – all PASS except: CPU Multicore (Misconfigured), SMBIOS Standards (Failed)

but then....

BIOS – system defaults restored, then main hard disk drive diagnostics, all PASS.

What next step should I take?  It is a well-cared for machine and I'm a moderately (tho not close to some of you) skilled with computer repair.

Thanks many times -

David

run the full diagnostic, and see what happens.

Have you tried to reinstall the window OS lately? and what operatiing system are you using at the moment?

Re: T61 CPU/SMBIOS/Keyboard Issue - but with passed diagnostics?

We're running Windows XP Professional, and can't use the keyboard so I can't run that particular diagnostic.

While I look for the Windows install CD (which has got to be somewhere!), is there a way I can download the OS without it?

Thanks again  -

this diagnostic is run in dos mode, what operating system you use won't affect it.

Re: T61 CPU/SMBIOS/Keyboard Issue - but with passed diagnostics?

Oh okay, thanks.  How do I access the DOS mode - and will I need the keyboard for it?  Only the mousepad/associated buttons work right now....I've run the BIOS diagnostic test, but passed it.

[ Edited ]

so the keyboard doesn't work in the diagnostic test mode when you run the pc doctor dos software?

if that is the case, then there maybe a problem with the keyboard or the motherboard.
