T61 Support SATA II ?

I try to upgrade my T61 harddisk to 320G WDC WD3200BEVT.

This drive was used in my Acer PC. Using the Intel Storage manager, I confirm it is working as SATA II drive (generation 2).

However, when I install this drive to my T61.  It only display as generation 1.

Thank you for your quick reply. I though this is a 965 chipset PC and should support 3.0GB?

Could this be the reason that Intel Storage manager reporting the drive as generation 1?

Re: T61 Support SATA II ?

Why it is limited to 150 GB/sec interface speed ?

I thought "ICH8M-Enhanced I/O Controller Hub" should make this work.

So basically SATA II will not function as it should be in T61, right?

Re: T61 Support SATA II ?

So it must be some control via BIOS?

I check from WD website. In fact the 250G (SATA1) and 320G(SATA2) has the same power rating.

Unless the Intel chipset takes more power when SATA2 is enabled.

I check the BIOS and Intel Matrix manager. There is no setting for it.

WOW, I'd like to see that!

That should read 1.5Gbps... which is much faster than any single mechanical drive to date can achieve.

Cheers,

Bill

Re: T61 Support SATA II ?

The media transfer rate, i.e. the speed, at which a hard disk can read data from or write data to the disk surface, for a 320 GB 2.5" HDD running at 5400 rpm is typically less than 800 Mbit/s. Therefore, it is irrelevant whether the disk interface performs at 1.5 Gbit/s or 3.0 Gbit/s. The limiting factor is the media transfer rate and not the interface.
