I have almost same problem with my 5months old T61, but before hibernate this computer warns me that battery stretch 3% left.. Battery health is poor 54% and cycle count is 131. Anyway this battery takes about 10min usage then it says that it is empty, but recharge takes still full time.
Battery brand is sony - obviously there has been this same problem with several battery manufacturers. ![]()
I think that I need to contact lenovo service.

sean75p & BenBalto & Gini:
I have the exact same problem. Lenovo is sending me another battery. I was never able to get more than 1.75 hours out of my battery - ever - on my T61p, even at the lowest screen dim settings, wireless off, etc. Painful when I'm travelling on a plane.
Questions: Did the battery replacement solve your problem? How much battery life are you getting out of your 6-cell? (My warranty expires in a few months.)

I must add myself to the choir. Despite thrifty battery settings, the battery runs out at the speed of light and even when I shut down the computer at say, 85%, when I plug in I find it at 2-4%.
This is a T61
Sony 6-cell battery
Manufacture date:2008-03
First Use:2008-04
Cycles:49
Condition: Good
I did a gauge reset a few days ago, thinking maybe that was the issue. It did not fix the problem.
So I am asking... should I just call Lenovo and get it replaced?
Thanks.

guzman: I think you should call Lenovo and they will definitely send you a new battery. It seems like a few of the cells in the 6-cell battery are defective.

I'm sorry if I should have started by own thread instead of using this one, but since the issue is the same I figured why not. I'm experiencing the same problems and the original poster. The power management software says I'm getting 58% of the original charge. I've tried forcing a discharge and all that as well. My cycle count is 68 and I bought this laptop in December 2007.
Do you think I should be getting a new battery? If so, I am currently not in the country I bought my laptop, and won't be for another 3-4 months. So would that be a problem in terms of dealing with warrenty and all that?
Best Regards

I'm glad I found this thread. My wife's T61 is having the same problem. She will use it for just a few minutes, the battery gauge will read 85%, but the computer will shut off and go into hibernation. When you plug it in and turn it back on, the power gauge is now at 3%. We tried the battery reset a few times to no avail.
We bought the machine in February 2008, and it is under warranty until 2011. I will give Lenovo Support a call and see what they can do.
