I just upgraded to a a T61p from a T43 both using Windows XP and 2gig of Ram. I've noticed that the T61P is noticably slower on wireless and internet access. Sreeens just take longer to display and upload sites.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

According to this page, your T61 doesn't have "b" wireless, so that pretty much resolves the issue...
Product: ThinkPad T61p 6457-AB3Original description: Based on 6457-5KU: T7500(2.2GHz), 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1920x1200 LCD, 256MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn(n-disabled), Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Intel Turbo Memory, WinVista Business 32
Once you switch to "g" enabled router, you'll get much better results.
