T61p: Display brightness & lifetime

I have been using my T61p for about 3 years (since April 2008).  I didn't realize how much the maximum display brightness had faded and yellowed until I put it next to a T410 today.  Is there a recommended procedure to update the CFL tube and/or the whole display?  Is it even possible on an 14" SVGA+ (1400 x 1050) display?

You'll have to change the lcd panel...
