T61p - Need 2 HDs for virtual server

Hello everyone,

I am looking to configure a T61p with using the option for the media drive bay adapter with a second hard drive. I would like to put two 100GB/7200rpm HDs in the notebook to run both the application and the server at the same time for demos to clients. Is there any other way to configure the T-Series with two hard drives, WITHOUT using an external drive? One of the drives will hold the application and the other will hold SQL or similar. Does anyone see any problems with taking this on?

Any help would be great.

You can use the UltraBay Serial ATA Drive Bay Adapter to install a second hard drive into your ThinkPad It's found here

It says for the T60 notebooks. Does that include the 61? Sorry for the stupid question.

No questions are stupid.
The T61 wasn't around when they wrote the description for the adapter, they tend not to update them.
You can find suitable accessories on this site. Just enter in you type and model number. (hdd adapter should be on about page 4)

The system has a max support for two drives: the internal and the ultrabay drive.  Were u referring to using two drives not counting the ultra bay drive?  If that is the case, you'll have to use the external.

But on the other hand, if you were referring to using more, I may commit some blasphemy here, but Sager makes custom systems that have RAID capable drives.  No ultrabay though, of course.  :-)

Samsung SDD

I would also like to use dual drives in my T61p but I am confused on whether the Samsung 1.8" SDD here drive will work in the hard drive bay adaptar?  Does a 1.8" drive work or would I have to use 2.5"? Looks like the smaller one uses 50 pins and the larger 40 pins.

"You'll need an adapter to get it to 2.5-in. interface spec, "

You need to be careful to get the correct ultrabay adapter too.  You will need an IDE adapter not a SATA one.  I use the UltraBay adatper for 2.5" hard drives a great deal and they work great.  You can backup to it and eject it from within windows too which can be handy.
