T61p Recovering system with multiple partitions (more than factory installed)

I have a new system and I have made the recovery discs. I just want to know for sure that if I ever have to use the discs, that any new partitions I make will not be destroyed upon recovery. For example, if I make 3 partitions none of which are hidden recovery partition, when I restore, it will only restore to one partition that I designate or is it based on the ordering of the partitions? In addition, will these recovery discs not rely on the hidden partition? Thanks

Hi msicis, welcome to the forum,

those recovery disks are intended to recover your ThinkPad to factory settings. This means as you received it. They will recreate the service partition and from there install your TP as was, you partitions will be gone.

If the partions are important to you I would recommend creating an image or, if you have a spare drive lying around, cloning the hard drive with a third party software such as Acronis which seems to work well with ThinkPads.

If you restore using the blue button or F11 at boot it will not disturb your partitions. (unless you tell it to.)
If you restore using the recoery discs it will remove all partitions, create the restore partition and restore windows from the restore partition.
