VGA to DVI

Hi Guys,

i have a T61p running winxp.

I want to connect my laptop(undocked) to a LCD monitor. Since i want to see more vibrant colors i would like to use dvi option of the monitor i bought.

Here is my question:

t61p does not have an  individual dvi output. yet, I know that we can change some bios settings for dvi-d support.

1) Does dvi only work when laptop is docked? I am asking this because only the docking station has a dvi output.

2) If the answer to the first question is "No, you may still use DVI even if your laptop is undocked"

How?

Can i get a digital signal from vga port of my laptop? Should i make a connection between vga port(from laptop) and dvi port (from monitor)? Can i get a digital output even if i make a connection between vga port(from laptop) and vga port (from monitor)?

Thanx for any kind of help...

Re: VGA to DVI

DVI only works when it is docked, your VGA output is only analogue signal.

Re: VGA to DVI

I have a T61 and have a DVI - VGA cable attached to my Samsung P2770.  I was wondering if the Lenovo USB-to-DVI Monitor Adapter would be an alternative to buying/using a docking station.  I also would like to take advantage of the digital signal and higher screen resolution that my monitor can support rather than analog.  Thank you. Vince.

Re: VGA to DVI

@sn1110897, the Lenovo USB2DVI is possible alternative but you can't really stream high resolution movies at 1080p, due to the limited bandwidth of the usb 2.0 technology.

I would say get a second hand Lenovo Advanced Mini Dock from ebay (some are only 40 USD), and use the DVI-D ports on that.

Re: VGA to DVI

Thank you!!  I will take a look at the Mini docks on ebay.  I will also need a 90W power supply since I only have the 65W. Vince

Re: VGA to DVI

many of the advanced mini dock are sold with the 90 watt adapter included (as it was included with the dock).
