What have I done to my T43?

Hiya all!

I wonder if somebody could help me?

I have just replaced my old T40 with a newer, well for me anyway, T43.

I had increased the SO-DIMM on the old T40 some time ago with a 1GB piece and thought I'd try and install it into the T43.

Well, it don't fit, so put the same card back into the T43 as I had taken out.

On rebooting, I have load peeps coming from the machine and the screen does not come on!

Now, with my cap in hand, I would appreciate it if someone would  tell me what I have done wrong and how to overcome the problem?

Many thanks

Re: What have I done to my T43?

You didn't damage anything, but always Read first the "Service Manual" before doing surgery to your T43. Good Luck.

Re: What have I done to my T43?

You might have damaged the slot since T40 and T43 use different memory types. Sheer luck you haven't fried the motherboard.

Cheers,

George

Re: What have I done to my T43?

[ Edited ]

The T40/41/42 take DDR memory;  The T43 takes DDR2 memory.   Hopefully you didn't damage the slot (physically or electrically):

Re: What have I done to my T43?

Mmm!

Maybe I have damaged the slot because whaever i do it will not accept the original DDR2.

I get sounds of 3-1-4-3 beeps as soon as I reboot with the card fitted!

Looks as though I'll have to do without , because the computer seems fine with it not fitted!

Apart from trying to get a new DDR3 card, is there any way of checking if the slot is damaged?

Serves me right for fiddling with something that was working in the first place!

Always glad of any help i can get!

Re: What have I done to my T43?

Something to maybe check, is there a sticker on the slot?

I had a similar experience and it took me a while to discover that when inserting the memory stick I had inadvertently folded the sticker into the slot, which had been overhanging a little, and inserted it with the memory into the slot causing a bad contact.  (??)

Re: What have I done to my TTT?

Hi!

I'm only trying to put back in what I took out!

But the T43 seems good enough with out it so I may as well go without.

I've had a good look at the card slot with a magnifying glass and can't see any damage and the memory card looks spotless too!

When I try to replace the card, and turn on, I get the Beeps!   3,1,4,3.

Thanks for any help!
