Why is the top cover of my T61 ThinkPad bowed?

Question

I've noticed that the top cover on my Thinkpad appears to have a slight bow to it.  Is there a problem with it, or is this a hidden design feature?

Answer

This is actually a deliberate design element to strengthen the cover on many models...
