Re: t60 beep error

I have seen that error caused by bad memory, but other than that, you need a motherboard

Re: t60 beep error

This is a long shot, but before you remove the board, try removing all the drives and cards and battery, then install only one known good memory module and power on, if the beep codes stop or change, then one of the pieces you removed could have been the cause.

This is not likely, but would only take a minute to check since you'll be removing all that stuff anyway when you prepare to change the systemboard.

Re: t60 beep error

ok, i replaced the mother board with a new one off e-bay but also found a video card bad. just wondering if a bad video card caused the board to go bad. ill test the other board in another t60 to see if it is stiil bad next week. almost forgot the board and card fixed this one. thank you for your answers but i didn't see TuuS answer until i had replaced the board.

The video card is an integrated part of the motherboard on these units, you can't replace one without the other.

[ Edited ]

I guess, you've a T60 with ATI X1300 or X1400.

These video-chips can get flexing like the T40-T43 ATI graphics chips caused by thermal influences. The ups and downs of the temparatures lead to tension of the BGA - solder pins because of expansion and contracting of the BGA "sub-board". The outer soldered pins break first.

Flexing by mechanical torsion as at the T40-T43 is successfully prevented by the structure frame.

Re: t60 beep error

sorry about that, i thought it was a video card but it is a modem daughter card. either way it was bad on the old board but i don't know if it was the problem with the beep code unless i put it on this laptop to replicate it. not to hard to do so i'll give it a try later tonight.
