Hello,
I wonder if there might have been something wrong with the installation media you were using.
Can you try reinstalling Microsoft Windows XP using the media that Lenovo provided, or that you created when you first received the notebook? This will ensure that you have all of the Microsoft files for the operating system, as well as the Lenovo-supplied ones. They will, of course, be several years old, but the auto-update mechanisms provided by Microsoft Update and ThinkVantage System Update will ensure that everything gets updated.

Hello,
It could be that the CD you used to install Microsoft Windows XP was missing a Windows component that the Lenovo drivers require. Unfortunately, I cannot think of what that might be. You might be able to get Windows XP installation discs from Lenovo that will work with your system through their technical support; there will be a charge for them, though. Or, at least, I have always been charged when I requested them.
