Hi,
My thinkpad T40P 2373-8CU has CDRW-DVDROM. Now it is not reading DVDs or writing CD's. It is reading CD's fine. It worked before. I recently formatted my system and I installed all related drivers. Please let me know the solution.
Thanks,
Satheesh M

What happens when you try to read a DVD? Does the drive just not recognize the disk at all? When a DVD is in Windows should see something.. If it does show a disk in but you can't play a movie you need a DVD playing software.. If it doesn't show a DVD being in the machine at all you probably need a new drive- that is rare but happens..

Any T40 is going to be ~5 years old by now, so its quite likely you need a new drive. The lasers in optical drives (one each for DVD and CD technologies) do wear out.
Cheers,
Bill

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. The drive just not recognizing the disk at all. After inserting the disk also, it is just saying "Please insert disk". Even CD writer is also not working. My Nero writer software doesn't recongising the disk at all.
Thanks,
