Cannot Boot E520 With Phone Attached to USB

When I reboot my E520, with my HTC Evo attached to a USB port (NOT as an external disk - just attached, charging), the E520 attempts to boot off the phone, and the only way I can get it to actually reboot is to disconnect the phone.  This is very irritating.  I've tried changing the boot sequence in the BIOS setup, and that makes no difference.

This bios is supposed to have addressed that issue.

I will try it when I get home - having just realized I am using a different Thinkpad now from the one that has the issue.
